Hi, I’m Warren, and my passion for angling has been a massive part of my life. As a young lad, I spent countless hours watching my late father and his friends pulling in big chub from our local rivers around Surrey. They were true masters of the craft, always running a stick float or waggler, tuning in to the river’s flow and presenting their baits as naturally as possible.

I vividly remember watching in awe as they filled their keepnets while I was left to catch my fair share of silverfish and, of course, endless amounts of humble gudgeon. But that sparked something in me—a desire to catch big chub on the float, a passion that’s stayed with me to this day.

​

Now, alongside my son Kane, I’ve spent countless hours on the Dorset Stour in pursuit of its legendary chub. In fact, I fulfilled my lifelong dream when I landed an incredible 8lb 1oz chub on the float at the end of the 2020/2021 season. To date, I’ve landed 14 chub over the magical 7lb barrier, with 12 of those fish caught using the trotting technique, always with red maggots as my bait of choice.

Kane has followed in my footsteps and developed a deep passion for the method. He’s put together some exceptional catches, including landing five chub over 7lb in one day—an achievement that fills me with pride.

I’m incredibly confident in my ability to catch chub, and I’m eager to pass on my knowledge to others. If the conditions are right, armed with a gallon of maggots and the right approach, I can promise you’ll see that float disappear beneath the surface and be locked into battle with a true specimen.
